Komentar žirija:
The Franciscan Gymnasium Visoko presents itself as the purest version of the most basic and primal topic of architecture: it is an envelope that provides space for various user activities to take place. Following the concept of providing as much as possible space within the given budget it uses the strength of super clear architectural layout and simple honesty in materialisation. It hides nothing while achieving the maximum benefit for the users. All its architectural and technical parts are brought down to their essence and melted in one whole where one cannot imagine removing anything and where any additional element would be obsolete. As such it succeeds to be beautiful. The smart positioning of the glass surfaces enable light to create space and simultaneously connect the indoor with the park. The integration with the park, ultimately enhanced with the future greenery on the facade, extends the positive impacts of the building well beyond its architectural qualities as it becomes an important player in the social life of the Franciscan campus and the town of Visoko. This project sets an excellent example of quality development of public programmes for local society with limited and affordable means.

Pametno pozicioniranje staklenih površina omogućuje osvjetljenje prostora i istovremeno povezuje unutrašnjost dvorane s parkom. Integracija s parkom, u konačnici u budućnosti dodatno izražena zelenilom na pročelju, proširuje pozitivne utjecaje zgrade i izvan svojih arhitektonskih kvaliteta jer postaje važan igrač u društvenom životu Franjevačkog kampusa i grada Visoko. Ovaj projekt predstavlja izvrstan primjer kvalitetnog razvoja javnih programa za lokalno društvo s ograničenim i pristupačnim sredstvima.
The construction of the multifunctional sports hall is the first step in the overall redevelopment of the Franciscan Gymnasium Visoko. Founded in 1900, the complex consists of a monastery, a gymnasium with dormitory, agricultural and sports grounds and a historic park. The new sports hall is placed at the far northeastern end of the complex to create an attractive ending and to move the historic park in the centre of everyday life at school.
The multifunctional sports hall is a state of the art sports venue that is also used for other large-scale school activities such as summer camps. The building is conceptualized as extension of the park.
A very economic and, as large as possible, envelope was constructed. The room programme is placed freely inside this envelope. This dissociation creates quite a flexible spatial situation that is open for different usages beside sports.
Two large horizontal openings provide natural light and visual linkages with the park. Tribunes connect the park level with the indoor sports ground. For large- scale events the glazing at park level can be partially opened to enable free circulation between inside and outside. Service rooms are placed in freestanding, 3-storey high towers. There is no backside and users are invited to stroll around and program the space. The sculptural qualities of the towers are popular by climbers.
The constructive elements of the hall (concrete and steel) remain visible. The hall appears as assembled at the site. Inner walls are partially covered with meandering green panels. These panels function as impact walls and optimize the room acoustics. The façade towards the park will be vegetated and will be in seasonal dialogue with the historic park. The green façade will be planted during phase II (landscaping) of the development.
The new multifunctional sports hall does not only add to the overall attractiveness of the gymnasium. Being the most modern sports facility in Visoko, it became as well a popular venue for local sports clubs. With the sports hall the Franciscans move once again into the centre of public life in Visoko.
